What Were Some Of The Most Challenging And Unique Projects You Have Worked On?
One of the most unique projects I worked on was the New York City cruise terminal. Unlike traditional transit projects like airports or train stations, working on a cruise terminal opened my eyes to marine architecture and the complexities of handling large passenger flows. It was fascinating to see how the design and construction of such a facility impacted travelers’ first impressions of the city.
Another major challenge was working on the Google St. John’s Terminal project, a joint venture between Turner Construction and Structure Tone. This interior fit-out project featured intricate design elements, including an egress stair wall, a feature wall showcasing the building’s history, and a two-story theater. One of the most impressive aspects of the project was the integration of virtual design and construction, which allowed us to create detailed digital models and mockups before actual construction. The use of AI-driven modeling and prefabrication helped us maintain schedule efficiency and quality control.
During my time managing the engineering team at Turner’s main office, I also oversaw over 40 projects ranging from small office fit-outs to large-scale construction efforts. This role required balancing multiple teams, ensuring cost efficiency and maintaining high standards of execution.

At Turner, we have embraced AI and virtual design in projects like Google St. John’s Terminal, where we used digital modeling to coordinate complex installations such as the glass-tiled theater walls and mechanical systems beneath seating areas.
Another major technological advancement is the integration of building information modeling and virtual design & construction. These tools allow us to create detailed 3D models that ensure trades are coordinated before physical work begins. Identifying potential clashes early, we reduce costly rework and delays.
Mockups and in-situ tests also play a crucial role. For example, during the Brookfield Place renovation, we tested radiant flooring systems to ensure efficiency in heating and cooling.

What Advice Do You Have For Industry Professionals Looking To Stay Ahead In Construction And Project Management?
The integration of AI, sustainable building practices and innovative construction methods are shaping the future. One of the best ways to stay informed is by attending industry conferences where new technologies, materials and methodologies are showcased.
The fundamental way we build hasn’t changed much, but the materials, processes, and coordination techniques are constantly evolving. Understanding financial management, contract negotiations and trade coordination can significantly improve project success.
